The empty basket of a motorized shopping cart is not a comfortable place to scream. Where’s my friend Randy when you need him. Oh look. A stranger’s dog.

Completely apropos of nothing, I once ran an impromptu experiment to discover how fast a shopping cart can go. I was driving to my retail gig at Petsmart when I noticed one of our carts several hundred feet away, so I pulled alongside it and held onto it out the window as I drove to my parking spot.
Sadly I don’t recall how fast I got it up to, but it’s definitely not a stable vehicle at any reasonable speed.

I would never have risked denting the side of my car by doing that. No experimentation is needed to know it would not want to go in a straight line stably at any speed. That said I am impressed that you did it. Next time put someone in the basket; the weight will make it go faster.
